My name is Tano — like my grandfather, like the river.
This project was born from a name, a story, and a mission.
I am Alexandre Tano Kan Koffi, an Ivorian, Information systems specialist, digital creator, researcher, and environmental advocate. The Tano River runs between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, crossing borders as it has crossed generations in my own family. My middle name, Tano, is a living reminder of this connection — passed down from my grandfather, a man deeply rooted in the traditions and waters of the region.
💡 Why this website?
The Tano River is one of West Africa’s most important and endangered rivers. It holds cultural, spiritual, historical, ecological, and economic significance. Yet today, it is threatened by illegal mining, pollution, and deforestation.
Tanoriver.com was created to:
- Educate the public about the river’s importance
- Document its history and heritage
- Share its biodiversity and sacred stories
- Raise awareness of the threats it faces
- Build a community of guardians and collaborators
This site is not backed by any institution. It is an independent, citizen-led initiative, built with passion and urgency.
🌍 A bridge between cultures
The river is a natural border between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. But it is also a symbol of unity — between nations, peoples, languages, and beliefs.
Tanoriver.com aims to reflect that spirit of connection by:
- Publishing content in English (and soon in French)
- Collaborating with individuals and communities on both sides of the river
- Welcoming all contributions: scientific, artistic, local, or diasporic
🙏 Join the journey
This is more than a website. It’s a call to remember, protect, and honor a vital river that nourishes both land and soul.
Welcome to Tanoriver.com.
Let’s preserve the Tano. Let’s preserve the future.
