“My name is Tano, like my grandfather, like the river. This project is my way of honoring that legacy.”
We are proud to announce the official launch of TanoRiver.com — a bilingual (English/French) platform fully dedicated to the preservation, history, and celebration of the Tano River, which flows between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
🌊 Why This Project?
The Tano River is not just a body of water — it is a lifeline, a spiritual symbol, and a cultural anchor for millions of people. From its sacred source in the Techiman hills to its estuary near the Ivorian coast, the Tano nourishes humans, animals, forests… and legends.
But today, the river is under serious threat:
- From illegal gold mining (galamsey),
- From pollution, deforestation, and habitat loss,
- And from the lack of public awareness about its importance.
📚 What You’ll Find on TanoRiver.com
✅ In-depth species profiles of wildlife living in and around the river
✅ Historical and cultural insights on the riverine peoples (Akan, Nzema, Ahanta…)
✅ News and reports on pollution, protests, and environmental degradation
✅ A “Get Involved” section offering ways to help without bureaucracy
✅ A growing archive of resources for students, researchers, and communities
🤝 A Community Platform
TanoRiver.com is an independent, citizen-driven project — with no NGO or institutional backing. It is a call for collective awareness and a tool to foster cross-border collaboration between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, and beyond.
We are not an organization. But we believe in the power of an informed and united community to protect its rivers, its forests, and its future.
